The story begins with the Canvas Tote in 1996. Vanessa, then a young mother and entrepreneur, dreamed of a lightweight bag for her bike rides, yet feminine and elegant enough to bring with her to meetings and dinners. She designed a simple and refined shape and chose a utilitarian cotton canvas, originally intended for boat sails.
